Randall Scrivener, the author of the Weasel Finkbone adventures, began writing about Weasel many years ago. He says this about his authorship of the books:
‘Well, I did write them, and they came out of my own head, so I guess that makes me the author; however, it felt at times like I was more a reporter than an author. All of the characters, as it turned out, seemed to be real people who already existed, intact and complete, in their own world; they seemed almost to DEMAND of me that I provide them an entry into our world. They would not be denied! It was really pretty fascinating: It often seemed to me that I was merely telling a story that had already been written by the characters themselves. I would get to a point and would think, ‘there needs to be a new person here,’ and before I knew it, that character was introducing himself or herself from out of the Blue!’
Yes, well we think that makes you a pretty weird person, Mr. Scrivener, but we like you anyway, and we especially thank you for bringing Weasel and his friends to us! Randy was raised in the Washington D.C. and New Orleans areas and has lived in many interesting places since then. He currently resides in Texas, where he does his best to keep up appearances!
Join Weasel Finkbone and his friends on the adventure of a lifetime! Filled to the brim with spies, evil twins, candy that's good for you, and the odd and somewhat nerdy Weasel, Weasel Finkbone is a must-read for anybody! Check out the descriptions of the three books below. Each book is an adventure in its own right, but all three tell a single story.
His father was dead--his body blown to bits, they said, on an assignment far from home. But neither Weasel Finkbone nor his sister, Anna, believed them. Now, after three years of sly investigating, Weasel thinks he knows where his father is: out on an old oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, and probably involved in some top-secret government plot. But as he and his friends, Titus and Beans, are finalizing plans for a secret trip to the rig to look for his dad, things start to get a little crazy, and the trip that was meant to be a 'quest to end all quests' becomes just one leg of a far more exciting adventure that forces the spotlight-avoiding Weasel to take center stage and share with the world his many odd but excellent qualities.

Life has not been easy for Weasel Finkbone since he saved the world from catastrophe. Not only can he not go anywhere without being noticed; he has also made some new enemies who are
out to get him. He hopes that a change of scenery—the gift of a trip to England with his girlfriend, Keenan Derring—will help him get away from it all; instead, he finds that he is even
more popular overseas, and that his presence in England puts him in the middle of a sinister new plot and even closer to the enemies who are bent on doing him in for good. His friends,
Titus, Beans and Jin-Ae Kee, his sister, Anna, and many others, including the Queen of England, are working hard to help him.
But will their help be enough, and will it come in time?
A large pool of his blood was found at the scene of his shooting, and he is
officially missing and presumed dead, but Weasel Finkbone is still making news!
Since his body was never found, many believe that he, somehow, survived.
Highly fanciful ‘Weasel-Spotting Reports’ have been pouring into news stations
from around the world. His friends are hopeful—his girlfriend, Keenan Derring,
received an odd package that is almost certainly from him—but they do not
know for sure if he is alive or dead, and they don’t have time to find out! They
have less than ten days to stop the Inner Circle’s evil plot that has already been
successfully launched and that, when it kicks in on Christmas Day, will leave
millions of people dead.
Weasel is indeed alive and in the game, but with the
evil plot steamrolling to almost certain success, what can he do?
At first, Randy thought that he might try doing the cover designs for the first two
books himself. Both designs were roundly vetoed by friends and family, their
basic response being some version of, ‘Well, that’s kind of interesting, Randy,
but...um, No!’
His idea behind the first cover, he says, was to capture Weasel’s elusive nature:
‘Weasel is someone who is hard to keep in view,’ he said. ‘You know, ‘Now-you-see-him-now-you-don’t!’ I wanted to somehow convey that by not drawing
him at all but having him somehow appear, staring at you from out of the middle
of the cover, through the words of the title. But he always ended up looking
more like an alien, or like Gollum, so I had to give it up.’
Of his second cover design he had this to say:
‘I really liked it. I thought the
stick figures would catch peoples’ attention and make them want to pick up the
book, but too many people told me it looked like a children’s book. I ended up
leaving the cover designs to others, and I think they did a great job!’
